The Café English Story
I started my adventurous career teaching English back in the late 80s. Then, in 2015, life brought me back to teaching. The feeling that got me going in the first place - the joy I got from seeing my students progress, the enthusiasm I got from feedback on how they could use their English skills in real life - came back.
I knew I was on to something, because in none of my previous ventures have I been able to fulfil my potential as much as when I have been able to work directly with people and see in their eyes how they understand and absorb the knowledge I am delivering.
I never had any formal teacher training, perhaps this gave me the freedom to develop my method. It was clear to me that I would teach others English in the same way that I had learned many languages in my life, naturally, by speaking, in a native speaking environment. I have travelled a lot and talked to people who speak more than 10 languages and it has been a pleasure to find that we share the same ideas about language learning.
With these principles in mind, I founded Café English, a language school with a family atmosphere.
It was essential to create an environment where students could feel free and at home. I know that everyone is living their lives and doesn't need one more assignment. I wanted everyone who came to us to enjoy doing it and for it to be the highlight of their day.
Café English does not aim for you to speak flawlessly and learn perfect fluency. We do not want to prepare you for a final exam or a language test. Our mission, and therefore the school's mission, is to give our students complete freedom, with the opportunity to engage in liberated, easy English conversation in our own way. You can take this knowledge anywhere, in any situation, so you can always feel confident.
