General Terms and Conditions

In these General Terms and Conditions, „student” or „learner” means the natural person who receives training from Cafe English. The service provider to the student is Cafe English. The brand name Cafe English is owned by Cromwell Global Media Kft. (1054 Budapest, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út 58., tax number: 26608206-1-41, company registration number: 01 09 334831).
Acceptance of these Terms and Conditions constitutes a learning contract between the student and Cafe English. The contract starts on the date of purchase of the pass and expires on the date of the last lesson or the expiry date of the pass as shown on the website.

Subject of the study contract

The purpose of this study contract is for Cafe English, through its specialised communication training system, to help students develop their English communication skills with the help of their native teachers. The contract is between the student and Cafe English, with the aim of enabling the student to use English effectively and confidently in a variety of situations, whether in everyday conversation, professional communication or other language use situations.
Under the study contract, Cafe English is committed to using teaching methods and tools that maximise the development of the student's communication skills, taking into account the student's individual needs and language level. The emphasis is on practical language use and fluency of communication.

Teachers

The teachers at Cafe English are native English speakers. Their knowledge of Hungarian is limited or non-existent. Hungarian is not used in lessons under any circumstances by the teachers.

Definition of a mother tongue teacher

A mother tongue teacher is a language teacher who has acquired language skills in the language he or she teaches and uses that language in a natural context as a primary means of communication. Not necessarily born in the US or the UK, but raised in a culture where English is the primary language, he or she conveys authentic language use and cultural knowledge. A native English teacher has a deep knowledge of the subtleties, dialects and customs of the language and conveys this knowledge authentically to students in the classroom.

Structure of clocks

Homework is the basis for group and individual lessons. The student prepares on the basis of the homework and then the lessons are spent interactively, with the student actively participating in discussion for as much of the time as possible, ideally for 70% of the lesson. This approach provides an opportunity to develop communication skills while practising in real-life situations.
Speaking practice sessions are designed to develop communication skills, especially fluency, accuracy, fluency and pronunciation, without the teacher providing detailed explanations or focusing on vocabulary development.

Student responsibilities

The student agrees to arrive prepared for the type of lesson of his/her choice - group, individual or both - respecting the work and time of the teacher and other participants. This ensures that he/she can actively participate in the class and does not hinder the achievement of the original purpose of the lesson by being unprepared.
Furthermore, the student must appear in an orderly manner, taking care that his/her dress or appearance does not disturb or inconvenience the teacher or (in the case of group lessons) the other students. Students must not attend lessons under the influence of alcohol.
If the student opts to pay by instalments, the student agrees to ensure that, after the automatic debit note, there is sufficient funds on his/her credit card to cover the amount of the fee.

Cafe English's obligations

1. Individual lessons: At Cafe English, our teachers are committed to providing individual lessons tailored to the student's level and individual goals. Lessons are dynamic and based on a lesson plan, ensuring the student's progress in English. The teacher arrives at the agreed time, dressed appropriately, and guarantees good sound and image quality and a noise-free environment for online lessons. New topics introduced in the previous lesson, once the student has worked through and prepared, are reviewed together and interactively discussed, and the student is given new, motivating tasks to continue his/her progress. The aim of the lessons is to maximise the development of communication skills, especially in listening comprehension, fluency, accuracy, fluency, vocabulary development and pronunciation.

2. Group lessons: Cafe English ensures that its teachers prepare for group lessons according to the level of the group and based on a pre-designed lesson plan. Lessons are dynamic, providing opportunities for active participation and development. Teachers arrive punctually at the booked time, dressed appropriately and, in the case of online lessons, ensure adequate sound and image quality and a distraction-free environment. New topics introduced in the previous lesson are interactively reviewed once students have processed and prepared them, and then they are given new and interesting tasks to further develop their communication skills, with a focus on listening comprehension, fluency, accuracy, fluency, vocabulary development and pronunciation.

3. Speaking practice sessions: Cafe English is committed to helping students develop their spontaneous speaking skills during speech practice sessions, taking into account the level of the student. Teachers will be dressed in appropriate attire at the agreed time and will ensure good sound and image quality and an undisturbed environment. The sessions are designed to develop communication skills, in particular fluency, accuracy, fluency and pronunciation, without the teacher providing detailed explanations or focusing on vocabulary development. Speaking practice sessions are available exclusively online.

Description of some Services:

(A) Individual lessons
  1. Length of lessons: individual lessons last 45 or 60 minutes.

  2. Individual lessons are available online or in person.

  3. Conditions for individual lessons

    • For individual lessons, teachers are usually available between 8am and 8pm on weekdays. Teacher availability may vary and can vary from week to week. Although not guaranteed, some teachers may be available at weekends.
    • Some teachers teach exclusively online, while others are available both online and in person. This information can be found on each teacher's profile on the website, so it is worth checking before booking.
    • Specific times and availability of teachers - whether online or in person - are displayed in real time in the booking system when you make your reservation. As teacher availability is subject to change, we recommend that students try to book their lessons in advance after purchasing their season ticket to avoid booking difficulties due to lack of capacity.
  4. Teacher choice:
When choosing a season ticket, students can also take into account the teacher's qualifications and specialisation. If the student wants to learn general, everyday English, he/she can choose the "General English" teachers, who will provide support in this area. However, if the student wants to develop more specialised, advanced language skills, for example in business or professional subjects, there are "Expert Instructor" teachers who specialise in specific training.

  5. Rentals:

    • For individual lessons, it is possible to buy discounted season tickets.

    • The amount of the discount depends on the type of pass chosen by the student and the number of seats purchased.

    • Passes are valid for 30 days, which means that the hours on the pass can be booked through the booking system within this period. Hours can be booked up to 45 days in advance.

    • If the student does not cancel or change his/her appointment at least 24 hours before the start of the lesson, the lesson is considered to have been held.

    • If the student has not used all or part of the lessons purchased, the unused lessons cannot be carried over to the next period for the basic season tickets and the student is not entitled to any refund.

    • In case the student buys a renewable pass, the unused hours will automatically roll over to the next period.

    • The original expiry date cannot be extended or extended.

    • In exceptional cases, a few days' extension is free of charge on an equitable basis.

    • If the extension request is longer than 3 days, the pass can be extended once and for a maximum of 30 days. The fee for this procedure is HUF 9.000.

    • When you buy a season ticket, you can choose whether the lessons are in a general language or of a professional and/or business nature.

    • For professional/business English classes, it is important to clarify that the role of the teacher is not to provide professional or business training, but to develop language skills. No teacher has expert-level knowledge of professional or business subjects, so they cannot be expected to provide professional training. However, teachers are able, with appropriate support and resources, to learn the vocabulary of a particular field and then deliver it in the form of a personalised curriculum. In this way, they can help students to integrate the vocabulary into their language skills and to use it confidently in practice.

    • Renewable season ticket:

      • Convenience of use: if you choose a renewable pass, students do not need to buy a new pass every month, as the system automatically renews it. This saves time and allows them to continue their lessons without interruption.

      • Continuous access: the pass does not expire at the end of the 30-day period, so the student can take the lessons at any time. Unused sessions are automatically rolled over to the next period, ensuring that nothing is lost.

      • Secure payment: the student's bank card details are stored securely by the card processing company STRIPE and the card is automatically debited with prior notification the next time a payment is due.

      • Flexible cancellation option: the renewable pass can be cancelled at any time, so students have full control over their pass and can adapt its use to their needs.

  6. How to book individual lessons:

    • Choose a season ticket and enter your preferences: the student chooses the season ticket that suits them and enters their preferences. The student will then receive confirmation of his/her choice.

    • Booking portal availability: the confirmation will include a link to the booking portal where the student can access the teachers' timetables.

    • Teacher selection: the booking portal allows the student to choose the teacher that suits him/her best.

    • View availability: on the selected teacher's page, the student can see the teacher's current availability, making it easy to find a suitable time.

    • Booking a lesson: Students can book a lesson at the time that suits them best, based on the available times.

    • Confirmation: after the booking, the student will receive a confirmation e-mail about the booked time.

    • Connection information:

      • For online classes: the confirmation email will include a link to join Google Meet.

      • For face-to-face lessons: the confirmation email will include the address of the school where the lesson will take place.

Passes for speech lessons are available on the website, with different numbers of lessons. Students can choose between smaller and larger passes, according to their needs.
